Harborough village church is staging a special event to help an ancient Indian city fight the Covid pandemic

A Harborough village church is staging a special event on Saturday (June 19) to help an ancient Indian city fight the Covid pandemic.

Canon Chris Oxley will be reading all 150 psalms from 10am at St Andrew’s in Foxton in a bid to get behind the city of Trichy – which is twinned with the local diocese.

Each psalm from the Book of Common Prayer will be followed by a poem from Malcolm Guite’s “David’s Crown”, the church said.

Chris is acting as two pastors as well as local people have already died in Trichy, where they are desperately short of critical oxygen supplies and basics.

“The church there is working with Bishop Heber college in Trichy to coordinate support, identify hospital spaces and provide food for the wider community,” said Chris.

“Bishop Martyn has now put out an emergency appeal for urgent financial support.

“You are now being invited to support our partners in Trichy diocese.

“So, why not sponsor each psalm? (one idea… 10p per psalm… £15!).”
