Harborough MP backs Government support for businesses struggling through Covid-19

Struggling business men and women in South Leicestershire have received over £100 million worth of loans from the Government during the seven-month Covid-19 crisis

The stunning figure emerged as South Leicestershire MP Alberto Costa welcomed the “level of Government support” for businesses in his constituency.

Cash handed out includes 2,112 Bounce Back Loans topping £63 million.

They will make sure that small firms needing vital cash injections can continue to keep operating with no repayments due for the first 12 months.

And 154 business assistance loans hitting almost £39 million have been offered to firms in South Leicestershire through the Coronavirus Business Interruption Scheme (CBILS).

Alberto said: “It goes without saying that this year has been hugely challenging for businesses in South Leicestershire.

“But these latest figures demonstrate the scale of support that the Government has put in place to protect livelihoods and businesses.”

The Conservative MP added: “Of course, the next few months will be crucial for many businesses across the country.

“But the Government remains committed to ensuring that everyone has the support and assistance they need to get through this most difficult time.”
