The local authority received the LGBT+ Inclusion Award at Trinity House in Leicester on Tuesday February 25.

The coveted accolade recognises good practice and the advancement of LGBT+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender) inclusion for organisations across Leicester, Leicestershire and Rutland.

The award was set up with the equality, diversity and inclusion teams at De Montfort University, Leicester University, Leicestershire Police, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service and Leicester LGBT Centre.

It provides “visible recognition” for regional organisations for their commitment to LGBT+ inclusive practices.

Cllr Paul Dann, Harborough council’s Cabinet member for corporate services, said: “We are delighted to receive this award which is an acknowledgement of our commitment to ensuring that our District is inclusive.

“We will continually strive to improve our work with regard to removing barriers for our LGBT+ communities to help achieve genuine equality.”

The award comes after the council flew the rainbow flag above The Symington Building in Harborough to support equality, inclusion and diversity at the start of LGBT History Month.
