A brave Market Harborough dad has launched a new hair-raising scheme to back NHS staff fighting the Covid-19 outbreak.

Nick Bradley, 38, encouraged his four-year-old son to ‘cut’ his hair to get his new fundraising brainchild up and running.

The big-hearted teacher is now urging people all over the area to let someone give them a quick trim at home – while backing frontline health workers.

“This just came to me as I was thinking of different ways to entertain my lively kids stuck at home.

“I’ve got the four-year-old and a two-year-old so it’s been quite a challenge,” said Nick, who lives in Market Harborough.

“So I let my little boy cut my hair with a pair of broken beard trimmers.

“Now I’ve got chunks of hair missing out of the back of my head!

“My wife Hayley, who was standing nearby just in case, said he’d well and truly butchered it.

“It’s a very good job I’m not at all vain.”

The local primary school teacher said the hilarious charity stunt worked a treat.

“My lad loved it and we got the ball rolling raising cash so everyone’s a winner.

“So many of us are trying to dream up new ideas of supporting our fantastic NHS staff in this challenging time,” said Nick.

“They are simply incredibly heroic.

“Our health service staff are truly showing great British grit and determination.

“They are putting themselves in harm’s way day in day out to save lives and help people.

“They are incredibly admirable and all those working at the coalface are real heroes.”

The dad-of-two also paid tribute to other key workers keeping the country moving during this tough lockdown.

Posties, shopworkers, binmen and farmers are just a few of the critical workers doing essential work.

“They all deserve all our thanks and should be taking huge pride in what they are doing,” insisted Nick.

He is handing over all the money he collects to NHS Charities Together.

And Nick had already raked in £363 by 4pm on Thursday April 9 with the total spiralling all the time.

“Some generous supporters have donated £50 – it’s amazing.

“If everyone chips in £2 each then it will have a massive impact backing the NHS charity,” he said.

“I’d especially like to salute Tash at B&D barbers on Coventry Road.

“That’s because he’ll be doing the emergency repair job on my hair when we all get through this time!

“And I’m sure there’ll be a decent amount of work around for barbers and hairdressers in Harborough doing exactly the same putting people’s hair right.”
