The special Dementia Friends get-togethers are being staged by Home Instead Senior Care, which provides private home care for older people.

They are being run by Marion Lewis, Home Instead’s community support representative.

She is part of the Home Instead care team who are Dementia Champions and help support community groups and local businesses.

Dementia Friends is about learning more about the devastating condition and the many small ways people can help.

“From telling friends about the Dementia Friends programme to visiting someone you know living with dementia,” said a spokeswoman for Home Instead Senior Care.

“By becoming a Dementia Friend you will be provided with additional knowledge to be able to make your loved one feel safe, happy and cared for when living with dementia.”

The next Home Instead session is going ahead at 32 St Mary’s Road, Market Harborough, at 9.30am on Wednesday March 18.

The Alzheimer’s Society’s Dementia Friends programme is the biggest ever initiative to change people’s perceptions of dementia.

It aims to transform the way the nation thinks, talks and acts about the condition.
