An incredible 2,981 items were taken in to be fixed of which over 75 per cent (2,253) were repaired.

Some 918 volunteers took part and 1,748 cups of tea and coffee were drunk and 931 slices of cake eaten.

Recycle Devon, which co-ordinated the campaign, estimated that supporters had saved £100,000 altogether by not having to buy new products.

An astonishing 80 items were taken to the Congregational Church to be looked at in Harborough.

Experts repaired 33 while only eight were declared unfixable.

The rest needed parts or further attention.

Of the items taken in 41 were electrical, 13 jewellery and 11 textile and there were three clocks, three toys, two books and two pieces of furniture.

The event was staffed by 33 volunteers.

Most of them were repairers but some also helped out serving refreshments and booking in items.

The next Repair Cafe will be at the Congregational Church on Bowden Lane, Harborough, on Saturday April 25.

Mini Repair Clinics are now being held at the new Eco Village on St Mary's Road (behind Kwikfit) from 10am-2pm on Wednesday mornings.

Volunteer repairers will be there to mend electrical items, textiles and jewellery.

There is no charge for the repairs but donations will help to fund future events.
