Pedestrian dies after being struck by a lorry on the M1 near Lutterworth

A man died after he was hit by a lorry as he walked on the M1 near Lutterworth on Thursday night.

The pedestrian was walking in the southbound carriageway of the M1 near junction 20 when he was in collision with the truck.

The victim had been in “prior contact” with police, the force said.

So the freak incident has been reported to the Independent Office for Police Conduct watchdog as an accident investigation is also carried out.

The tragedy happened on the busy motorway in South Leicestershire just before 7pm on Thursday night.

Police and East Midlands Ambulance Service raced to the scene and found a “man in the road with serious injuries”, Leicestershire Police said.

The victim, who hasn’t been named, was declared dead at the scene.

“Enquiries conducted at the scene have established the man had been in collision with a lorry.

“The road was closed for a number of hours and has since been re-opened,” said police.

“Anyone with information regarding the incident is asked to contact police on 101 quoting incident 532 of 27 August.

“Given the man had been in prior contact with police, a referral is being made to the Independent Office for Police Conduct.”
