Column by Inspector Siobhán Gorman

It is now more than two months since Government guidelines were brought into place and life certainly continues to be quite unusual and challenging for all of us.

While some circumstances have changed, following restrictions being eased slightly earlier this month, our everyday policing does, as always, continue.

At the same time, the support and kindness being shown throughout the community has also continued during a time when we have all very much needed it.

So, following on from my message to you some weeks ago, I wanted to once again write to pass on my thanks to you for this ongoing support.

Since I last wrote, our team has continued to be out and about engaging with our communities, and we continue to explain and encourage people in relation to the revised Government guidelines where necessary.

While we have no role in enforcing social distancing, wearing masks or avoiding public transport, there may be a role for us where people are gathering in groups including people not in their household.

We therefore ask that you continue to work with us by respecting the rules to keep yourself and your family, friends and neighbours safe. And we will continue to be here to help you and to keep you safe and to take action when it is needed.

Please also continue to stay up to date with Government announcements so that you are fully informed.

I also want to use this opportunity to once again thank our team of officers who continue to work tirelessly in the community protecting people from harm, carrying out proactive patrols and making significant arrests while also supporting myself and each other as friends and colleagues.

We are all still very much living in unprecedented times and the concerns we all have remain in place. But as I previously mentioned, this is a challenge which we can overcome by continuing to work together, to support each other and to be there for each other.
