March to celebrate Easter

The march will be preceded by a large cross and begins near the café in Welland Park at 10.45am and ends in The Square.

In The Square there will be stalls, children’s activities, a prayer tent and, at 11.15am, a Good Friday Service followed by a soup lunch - all organised by Churches Together in Harborough.

A spokesman for the organisers said: “Local church leaders, musicians and singers will be on a large open-sided lorry trailer, provided by Stephen Sanderson Transport, for the Good Friday Service so everyone in The Square can see.

“The crowds will be invited to sing well-known hymns, including How Great Thou Art and When I Survey the Wondrous Cross.

“Soloist Tracey Holderness, musical director of Great Bowden Recital Trust Adult Vocal Choir, will sing Here is Love, Vast as the Ocean.

“Hot cross buns, donated by Tesco, will be given by the churches to people in The Square.”

Stalls in The Square will feature caring initiatives associated with the town’s churches including Bower House counselling service, Street Pastors, The Cube youth centre, Clockwise Credit Union, Jubilee Foodbank, Harborough Action for Justice and Peace, and the Fairtrade Group.

The event is being supported by Harborough District Council and HFM.

Families can also have fun with crafts. Anyone who would like a prayer for themselves or something they are concerned about is invited to the prayer tent. From midday a lunch of soup and bread will be served and a donation to the work of Christian Aid is invited.

The Rev James Shakespeare, chairman of Churches Together, said: “The theme for the event is ‘Love in Action’. We hope everyone will enjoy all that is happening and take a few moments to think about God’s love for all of us, put into action in the town through the compassionate work done by the organisations with displays in The Square.”
