Major expansion for business park near Market Harborough

Planners have approved a proposal for more than 30,000 square metres of commercial buildings in a major extension to Airfield Business Park, off the B6047 Leicester Road, north of Market Harborough.

The 19-acre site lies to the south of previously constructed employment buildings, including the landmark Harborough Innovation Centre.

An illustrative map at Tuesday night’s planning committee meeting of Harborough District Council showed a number of two and three storey buildings grouped round access roads that have already been constructed at the site.

The planned employment site is seen as part of the huge development north-west of Market Harborough, which includes permission for 1,500 homes.

Access to the site will be from the roundabout by the Innovation Centre.

Another road from the same roundabout will eventually serve an agricultural showground planned for an adjacent site.

Cllr Janette Ackerley said the planned extension “fits in very well” with existing development. She added: “This means units in the Harborough innovation Centre have somewhere to progress to afterwards.”

Planning committee chairman Christopher Holyoak said: “The Harborough Innovation Centre has been very successful. But there never seems to be sufficient car parking on these employment sites. Let’s make sure that there is enough car parking here.”
