Flames then spread to the property itself, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said.
Firefighters from Market Harborough and Lutterworth using two appliances, two breathing apparatus kits and two hose reels battled the blaze.
The incident caused just five per cent fire damage to the house but a devastating 85 per cent smoke damage, Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said.

A campaign to support the distraught family has already raised £1,510 as big-hearted villagers, family, friends and neighbours have quickly rallied round.
