Youngsters at Harborough school do their bit to boost the environment by planting trees

Now they need a name for one of trees - can you help?

Youngsters at a Market Harborough school are doing their bit to boost the environment.

The Year 9 students, aged 12 and 13, in Welland Park Academy’s eco-team had a tree-mendous time planting 16 trees donated by the Woodland Trust.

They included rowan, crab apple and hazel.

Mistée, Olivia, Bea, Kezia, Dexter, Zoe, Zara, Lucy and Lidia all said they loved getting behind the extra-special effort.

“We also welcomed some visitors from Harborough Woodland Community," said the school’s eco-team.

Volunteers Kim Durham and Bruce Durham came along to tell us how exactly to plant the trees and how to look after them when they are growing,”

“The trees were planted by the students outside the languages block.

“The highlights included christening the trees ‘David Attenbrowan’ (after the species of tree it is) ‘Bill’, ‘Timmy’, ‘Cecil’, and our very own ‘Miss Firth’.

“There was one tree left over by the students, referred to as the ‘Unknown Tree’.

“Any suggestions for a name would be greatly appreciated.

“We do hope to see some contributions!

“We forward to seeing them grow and looking after them in the springtime!”
