A woman has been fined £300 after she paid a man to take away her rubbish – and he dumped it in a country lane in the Harborough district.

The woman, who’s in her 40s, acted after she responded to a flyer pushed through her letterbox.

The woman, who lives in Leicester, has now been hit in the pocket by Harborough council after failing to check if the man was registered to carry and dispose of her waste.

He piled up her household rubbish on Gaulby Lane, Houghton on the Hill, in September.

And the woman who paid him was penalised after being tracked down by the council’s expert environmental crime team.

She admitted transferring her waste to an unlicensed carrier without making any 'duty of care' checks. The council’s specialist investigators are now striving to trace the fly-tipper himself.

The incident happened as a woman from Corby was also fined by Harborough council after a man she paid to remove her rubbish dumped it in Welham Lane, Great Bowden.

Householders are legally responsible for any waste produced on their property.
