Peter Pollak, 75, hit the warpath after the dirty bedding was stacked up by a meadow beauty spot off the town’s A4304 road to Lubenham.

Furious Peter, of Limner Street, Farndon Fields, Market Harborough, told the Harborough Mail: “This is absolutely disgusting.

“These pictures sicken me to my stomach.

“Who do these people think they are that they can just roll up and brazenly, casually dump their horrible rubbish in the middle of our fantastic countryside?”

The fuming lifelong rambler and open spaces enthusiast added: “These mattresses scar our lovely landscape.

“It’s an out and out eco crime to tip revolting household waste like this near a wheat field and just feet away from a meadow.

“Take your unwanted rubbish to the tip in Market Harborough like just about everyone else does.

“Turning our incredible Great Outdoors into a giant waste site is totally unacceptable and totally wrong.

“The people who did this should be caught and punished – they have got to be stopped.”

Harborough District Council warned that anyone caught fly-tipping can be jailed for up to five years.

“Dumping rubbish illegally could also result in a prison sentence of up to five years, an unlimited fine, or both, if prosecuted,” said the council.
