Leicestershire County Council has applied for planning permission to expand the Kibworth household waste and recycling site on the A6.

The council wants to create a multilevel site allowing for more bays, removal of the step access and better flow of traffic.

The local authority says the work would make the site safer and make it easier to use.

General maintenance and improvements will also be made to the tip.

Cllr Blake Pain, the county council’s cabinet member for waste disposal, said: “We are always looking for ways to improve our services and resources, making them the best they can be for the public.

“Supporting our residents to responsibly dispose of their rubbish and recycle is a top priority.

“These plans will allow us to make substantial improvements for everyone who uses our Kibworth site.”

The council is aiming to begin work in the late autumn of this year and hope the new enhanced site will be ready in the late summer of 2022.
