A consultation has started on the Strategic Transport Priorities (STP) report which sets out where the city and county can work together.

That particularly applies to tackling poor air quality and the effects of climate change, alongside continued support for the South Leicestershire economy and jobs.

The study also acknowledges a drive to persuade drivers and their passengers on to public transport as well as cycling and walking routes.

Leicestershire County Council wants more people to get out of their cars and switch to using buses.

The authority is also keen to step up regional rail services.

Services to local cities like Derby and Nottingham are good.

But routes to Coventry and Birmingham need to be improved.

Cllr Blake Pain, county council cabinet member for environment and transport, said: “I want to encourage as many people as possible to help us shape these strategic transport priorities.

“They are designed to be for the benefit of everyone in Leicester and Leicestershire.”
