Elderly man dies after collapsing in the street in Harborough

His death is “not being treated as suspicious”, said Leicestershire Police

An elderly man has died this afternoon (Monday) after collapsing in the street in Market Harborough.

The man, believed to be a local pensioner, collapsed in Dallison Close, off Northampton Road, Market Harborough, at about 1pm.

Two paramedics, a doctor and an ambulance crew all battled to save his life after dashing to the scene after he was suddenly taken critically ill.

But the man, who hasn’t been named, sadly died in the street near Harborough Leisure Centre a short time later despite their best efforts.

His death is “not being treated as suspicious”, said Leicestershire Police.

Shocked local residents are also thought to have tried to save the man’s life by performing CPR on his chest after calling 999 to raise the alarm.

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman told the Harborough Mail: “We received a call at 1.06pm today, 22 June to Dallison Close, Market Harborough, to assist with a medical emergency.

“We sent two paramedics in two ambulance cars, a doctor and a crewed ambulance.”

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said officers were called at 1.10pm by the ambulance service.

She told the Mail: “They were treating a man in a public place.

“He had been taken ill and he subsequently died at the scene.

“His death is not being treated as suspicious.”

She said police are now preparing a file on the man’s death for the Leicestershire Coroner.
