A driver had a lucky escape when their car exploded into flames near Market Harborough in the early hours of Tuesday March 31.

The shocked motorist jumped out and escaped uninjured after the black Mercedes R class vehicle suddenly caught fire on Sutton Road, Dingley, at 2.50am.

Firefighters from Desborough raced to tackle the blazing car in the pitch black darkness while Leicestershire Police closed the road.

The furious blaze, which gutted the luxury car, was sparked by an electrical fault, said Northamptonshire Fire and Rescue Service.
