A driver escaped uninjured after their people carrier overturned on a busy road in a village near Market Harborough in torrential rain.

The Ford Galaxy flipped over on the A4304 in Husbands Bosworth after apparently clipping a lamp-post in atrocious wintry weather on Friday afternoon (December 4).

Both police and firefighters raced to the scene after the alarm was raised at about 3.45pm.

But the driver had been able to climb out of their car as it lay on its side in the rainstorm when the emergency services turned up.

The motorist was said to be shocked and shaken-up after the single-vehicle crash in darkness but were otherwise unhurt.

The busy Market Harborough-Lutterworth road was partly blocked until the Ford Galaxy was recovered, causing long queues in both directions.

The road was fully re-opened to Friday evening rush-hour traffic just before 5pm.
