A tractor driver escaped uninjured after their vehicle burst into flames as they ploughed a field in the north of the Harborough district.

Firefighters raced to tackle the early evening blaze after the shocked driver raised the alarm.

The incident happened as the farm worker ploughed a field off Hallaton Road near Tugby at 6.45pm on Wednesday night (May 12).

Fire crews from Billesdon and Uppingham were called to the scene.

Leicestershire Fire and Rescue Service said a fault with the tractor’s hydraulics is suspected to have sparked the fire.

The tractor was seriously damaged by the blaze.
