A driver escaped serious injury after her car overturned on the A6 near Kibworth.

The woman was taken to hospital after her Peugeot suddenly flipped over on to its roof near Kibworth tip just after 2.30pm on Thursday afternoon (August 13).

Police, firefighters and ambulance crews all raced to the single-vehicle crash as traffic quickly built up behind the battered car.

The motorist was able to clamber out of her wrecked car, overturned on the side of the busy road, by herself.

She is thought to have had a lucky escape and was not seriously hurt in the crash as thunderstorms hit South Leicestershire.

An East Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said they sent two ambulances to the scene and took the driver to Leicester Royal Infirmary.
