Driver, 71, dies after a crash on country road near Lutterworth

A woman of 71 has died in a crash on a country road near Lutterworth.

The pensioner tragically died at the scene after the incident in Walcote, near Lutterworth.

The fatal accident happened at about 2pm on Monday afternoon March 17.

Police are now appealing for any eye-witnesses to contact them urgently.

Officers were called at 2.10pm to the single-vehicle incident in South Kilworth Road.

The woman was driving a silver Kia Sorrento towards South Kilworth from Walcote when she careered off the road into a ditch.

Police said the victim, who hasn’t been named, died at the scene.

The road was closed for several hours and motorists were diverted as emergency services dashed to the spot.

Det Con Anna Thorpe, of Leicestershire Police Serious Collision Investigation Unit, is now urging witnesses to come forward.

“I would like to appeal to anyone who may have witnessed the collision or saw the silver Kia beforehand to please get in touch.

“I am also particularly keen to speak to anyone who was travelling between South Kilworth and Walcote and who has a dashcam in their vehicle,” said Det Con Thorpe.

“Any information you have could help with my investigation.”
