Doctors and nursing staff are cyc-d up for cycle challenge!

Doctors and nursing staff from Market Harborough Medical Centre will be cycling 100 miles for charity later this month.

The four will join a Leicestershire health service team setting off from the McDonald’s roundabout on the A6 near Market Harborough at around 6am on Saturday, June 18.

They will hope to arrive on the east coast at Hunstanton, Norfolk, around eight hours later.

The four Harborough cyclists are Dr Tom Blake, Dr Fiona Bishop, Sister Kathy Coleman and health care
assistant Trina Finch.

“I’ve lost nearly two stone in weight, training for this event” admitted Dr Blake (55).

“I’m approaching the day with a bit of trepidation, and hoping for a nice day with the wind behind me.”

The main benificary of this fourth annual liver and pancreas charity cycle ride will be the hepatobiliary and pancreatic team (HPB) at Leicester General Hospital.

Drs Blake and Bishop will split their sponsor money equally between the HPB Unit and The Bower House Counselling Service on Coventry Road, Market Harborough, which helps people with mental health issues.

Event organiser Cris Pollard, who works at the HPB Unit at Leicester General Hospital, is also from Market Harborough.

She said: “The HPB team at Leicester General regularly conducts research which is very costly and rarely funded by the NHS.

“Last year we raised an astonishing £42,544 and 100 per cent of this money is used to support ongoing research which we hope will benefit patients everywhere in the country.”
