They will get the chance to show their support at a free ‘Joining Forces’ event being staged by Harborough District Council.

The authority will encourage guests to sign up to the Armed Forces Covenant and pledge a commitment to back the armed forces community in any way possible.

The council wants to persuade employers to sign the covenant – and forge a new reputation as a Forces-friendly business.

Council leaders will also highlight the diversity of our forces community as a recruitment source and, in turn, provide more job opportunities for them.

The invite is open to any employer throughout Harborough such as businesses, shops, schools, manufacturers, care homes, logistics firms, security firms, medical centres and dentists.

A special group photo will be taken on the night to celebrate all the employers who go along to back the initiative.

‘Joining Forces: How partnering with the armed forces community can strengthen your workforce and reputation’ will be held from 6pm-7.30pm on Monday March 16, 2020.

It will go ahead at Harborough Innovation Centre at Wellington Way, Airfield Business Park, Leicester Road, Market Harborough, LE16 7WB.

Cllr Rani Mahal (pictured), Harborough District Council’s Armed Forces Champion, said: “We want all employers to understand the strength and wealth of skills that the armed forces community can bring along as employees.

“It is a great opportunity to come along and find out more and take part in our group photo with all the organisations showing their support.”

Businesses will also get the chance to learn more about the Defence Employer Recognition Scheme.

The project acknowledges employers who are providing exceptional support to veterans, serving personnel, reservists and family members of those in the armed forces.

Successful businesses will gain access to free training opportunities to help develop the skills of staff.
