“Really cannot begin to say how hugely disappointed I am to see that my Constituency Office in Blaby was attacked this weekend - for the second time in two years.

“My office is a safe space for all constituents to seek help and assistance, whether you voted for me or not, my team and I are here for everyone in South Leicestershire and we certainly won't be intimidated by mindless acts,” Mr Costa said on his Facebook page.

“The person responsible has been recorded on CCTV and Leicestershire Police and the Parliamentary authorities have been contacted.

“I hope the person responsible thinks long and hard about their actions.”

A qualified solicitor and MP for South Leicestershire since 2015, he saluted scores of local people who got behind him after the attack.

“A very quick message to say a sincere thank you to all those constituents and others who took the time to send good and kind wishes to my staff and I following the vandalism at my office on Friday evening.

“We will all disagree from time to time.
