The Irish group of five caravans and six horses promptly packed up and went after pitching up on the site near the Wellington Place development off Leicester Road.

They were told by a High Court bailiff to go by 8am tomorrow (Thursday).

The travellers landed on the green by the canal last Wednesday night (July 15).

The group has been forced out after the builders’ consortium which owns the land swiftly obtained a High Court injunction to evict them.

The field where they were camped is now being fenced off in a bid to prevent a repeat and beef up security.

A huge clean-up is also being carried out today after furious local residents accused the travellers of leaving torn bags of rubbish and waste strewn all over the green within a stone’s throw of their homes.
