Suspected shoplifter arrested in Harborough after he failed to notice a police car parked outside the shop

A suspected shoplifter was arrested by police parked up just a few yards away in Market Harborough town centre.

The 33-year-old man was detained by officers on The Square yesterday (Thursday) after apparently targeting the Tesco Metro store.

The suspect was held by police after they spotted shop staff following him.

He is now poised to appear in court accused of stealing toiletries and other items totalling £120.

Harborough police tweeted: “Right place, right time for the Harborough beat team today (Thursday).

“If you're going to chance your luck and try to steal from our stores don't do it whilst we're parked outside!

“One suspect detained, property returned to store and a court date to follow.”
