Second man arrested following a stolen car chase in Harborough

A second man has been arrested by police following a stolen car chase in Market Harborough in the early hours of last Thursday (July 16).

The 28-year-old man from Desborough was detained on suspicion of burglary other than dwelling and theft of a motor vehicle.

He was held hours after a man aged 32 from Kettering was arrested on suspicion of burglary and theft, police said.

Both men have now been released on bail as officers continue to investigate the incident.

Police carrying out the inquiry are appealing for anyone with any information to come forward.

The drama started when a black Vauxhall Corsa was stolen from a business premises in Grenville Gardens, Market Harborough, at about 3.40am on Thursday morning.

Minutes later the motor was spotted in nearby Bath Street but the driver sped off when ordered to stop by a police patrol.

The Corsa ploughed into a car park after smashing through the wall near the Cinnamon Lounge restaurant on Northampton Road.

The crash left at least five other parked cars damaged while the battered Corsa ended up perched crazily on the bonnet of a silver saloon.

Sgt Tom Smith, of Harborough and Wigston Neighbourhood Policing Area (NPA), said: “We would like to speak to anyone who saw the Vauxhall Corsa being driven in the early hours of Thursday morning.

“I’m particularly keen to speak to anyone who has a dashcam installed in their vehicle or who saw or heard anyone acting in a suspicious or unusual manner in Grenville Gardens.

“Any information you have could help with our investigation.”
