Robbers who stole £5 million worth of Apple computer equipment from a lorry on the M1 near Rugby switched to another truck before dumping it in Lutterworth.

The gang is then thought to have transferred the 48 pallets of Apple products into a third vehicle in Lutterworth as part of the criminal operation before driving off.

The high-profile robbery happened under cover of darkness on the southbound slip road at Junction 18 of the M1 between 7.45pm and 8pm on Tuesday, November 10.

The robbers tied up both the lorry driver and a security guard, who was with the truck but in a separate vehicle, at the scene.

The wagon and trailer were then driven to Eldon Close in nearby Crick.

The criminals then transferred the trailer to a waiting truck and sped off leaving the tied-up lorry driver and security guard behind, said Northamptonshire Police.

Both the driver and the guard were badly shaken up by their terrifying ordeal but escaped physically unharmed.

The gang then drove across the border to Lutterworth.

They switched their lorry load of hi-tech Apple kit, including Apple watches, iPhone 11s,

Air Pods, iPads and chargers, into a third vehicle and drove off after dumping the second truck in Turnpike Close, Lutterworth.

Detectives want to speak to anyone who may have spotted a number of vehicles on the slip road at Junction 18 on the M1 between 7.45pm and 8pm on Tuesday November 10.

Officers are also keen to talk to anyone who may have dashcam footage of the crime scene.

“They would also like to speak to anyone who may have been offered any Apple products for sale in unusual circumstances - or who knows of anyone who is selling such items at low-cost prices,” said police.
