Police are urging shoppers across Harborough to keep a special watch out for purse thieves and pickpockets in the run-up to Christmas.

“Police will be increasing patrols but here are some prevention tips.

“Keep your purse and bags closed at all times.

“Carry bags diagonally across your chest.

“Don't leave your bag unattended in a shopping trolley.”

Police are calling on people to be extra-vigilant as they released pictures of two men who may have information about a purse snatch in Market Harborough - as we reported earlier this week.

The 57-year-old victim had her purse stolen at around 10.30am on Tuesday September 15 inside a store in Springfield Street.

She was approached by a man who started speaking to her and asking for help.

After talking to the man she resumed shopping before spotting her purse was missing when she reached the checkout.

PC Will Lip said: “We are releasing images of two men who we believe may have information to assist with our enquiries.

"If you think you know who these men are or recognise yourself from the images please get in touch."

Anyone with information should call police on 101 quoting crime reference number 20*484424.
