Police are stepping up their hunt for two suspects who carried out a hit-and-run ram raid at a Market Harborough jewellers.

Officers are urging anyone who knows anything about the smash-and-grab burglary at County Jewellers at about 1.30am on Tuesday September 1 to call them urgently on 101.

They have reissued the appeal as a man arrested about the crime which shocked the town has had his police bail extended.

The 44-year-old man from Corby was seized by Northamptonshire Police shortly after watches and necklaces were stolen from the high-end shop, which has been on the High Street for 37 years.

He was quizzed on suspicion of aggravated burglary, dangerous driving, failing to stop for police and driving under the influence of drugs.

The three-strong gang used a motorbike to smash down the front door of County Jewellers in pitch-black darkness before escaping with a stash of jewellery.
