Meanwhile, a banned driver who rammed a police car in Lutterworth in a bid to escape arrest has been remanded in custody after being taken to court.

Ashley Challis, 31, of Broughton Astley, was arrested on Monday evening (January 11) in Swiftway, Lutterworth.

Challis had earlier driven off from police in the car park of Derwent House, off Leicester Road in the town, crashing into a patrol car as he tried to get away.

The offender admitted aggravated vehicle-taking, driving while disqualified and driving whilst over the drink drive limit.

Challis was remanded in custody and is now set to be sentenced for the serious motoring crimes at Leicester Crown Court next month.
