Police investigating a devastating cyber-attack on a Market Harborough secondary school’s IT network have handed a file to the Crown Prosecution Service.

A man arrested over the serious incident on the computer systems at Welland Park Academy on Welland Park Road in January will now find out if he is to be charged over the incident.

The “sophisticated cyber-attack” during the coronavirus lockdown blocked students’ remote lessons for almost a week and hit the personal computers of over 90 pupils.

A 28-year-old man from Wellingborough was arrested under section 1 and 3 of the Computer Misuse Act.

The suspect was released under investigation after being questioned by detectives.

Police have thanked school staff, parents and pupils at Welland Park Academy for their support and co-operation during the long and complex inquiry.
