People across Harborough are being warned about a scam census text being sent out by criminals - here's what it says

People across Harborough are being warned about a scam census text being sent out by criminals.

The recipient is warned they’ve made a mistake on their survey form - and have to correct it or they will be fined.

People being targeted are told to click on a link which goes to a bogus website.

They are then asked for their confidential bank account details before forking out to put right their ‘mistake’.

A Leicestershire Police spokesman said: “We advise you not to respond to these text messages - and be mindful these may also appear as emails.

“You will not be called for information about the census, unless you’ve made an appointment with the Census Contact Centre or made a query or complaint.

“At no point will you be asked for your national insurance number, passwords, bank account details, or your credit or debit card numbers, nor any payment.”

You should forward any suspicious messages to 7726 immediately and send bogus emails to [email protected]
