New CCTV cameras are up and running in Harborough to help tackle crime

Extra security cameras are also poised to be set up in Lutterworth as well in the Kibworths.

The hi-tech equipment is being installed across the Harborough district as the council cracks down on criminals and vandals.

The authority’s leader, Cllr Phil King, told a full council meeting on Monday night (Nov 18): “Preventing crime and supporting victims is a key priority of the Community Safer Partnership.

“We are continuing to invest in additional CCTV capacity to help deter and also support our brave emergency services with the work they have to do.”

Cllr King added: “Two new cameras are now on line in Market Harborough with an additional three to five sites being technically evaluated in Lutterworth.

“We are also expecting shortly that a CCTV scheme for the Kibworths will be up and running.”

Cllr Phil Knowles, leader of the council’s Liberal Democrats, said: “It’s vital that we continue to sustain and indeed increase our CCTV coverage.

“The security cameras are very important for helping our police do their jobs.”

CCTV camera coverage and recording across Harborough district is only in open public spaces. Each camera records 24 hours a day, seven days a week and for 365 days of the year.

Live camera footage is studied and monitored around the clock by a special team of operators.

- Memorial Gardens

- Adam and Eve Street

- St Mary's Road

- St Mary's Place (two cameras)

- Northampton Road

- Sainsbury's Car Park

- Commons Car Park (two cameras)

- Symingtons Road Car Park

- Kettering Road/Springfield Road roundabout
