Market Harborough sex attack did not happen where initially thought, police confirm

Police investigating an alleged sex attack on a woman in Market Harborough now say the offence didn’t happen on Great Bowden Road as initially thought

They have issued the update on the incident as they continue to carry out enquiries into the assault on Tuesday morning (July 28).

Officers quickly flooded the area near the railway station and sealed off the graveyard of the old St Mary in Arden Church on Great Bowden Road after the attack was reported at about 9.20am.

Police are now thanking local people for their support while reassuring them that there is “no ongoing risk to the public” following the assault.

A Leicestershire Police spokeswoman said: “Officers have been carrying out further enquiries after an allegation of sexual assault was reported to the force yesterday morning (Tuesday 28 July).

“The investigation has now established that the offence did not occur in the Great Bowden Road area of Market Harborough.”

She added: “We’d like to thank the local community for their support while those enquiries were carried out and also reassure people that there is no ongoing risk to the public.”
