An illegal immigrant deported less than two years ago has been arrested by police in a Harborough district town.

The 29-year-old man was detained by officers after they stopped his car in Lutterworth yesterday evening (Tuesday).

Police stop-checked the vehicle at about 6pm on Hunter Boulevard, Lutterworth.

Officers stopped a driver near Magna Park this evening (Tuesday) after the vehicle's number plate was activated on their system.

They acted after automatic number plate recognition cameras brought the car to their attention.

Officers used a mobile fingerprint scanner to identify the man.

They quickly established he had been deported by the authorities less than two years ago but had illegally made his way back into the UK.

“The driver was found not to hold a valid driving licence and the car was not insured.

“The car was seized,” said Leicestershire Police today.

“The driver, a 29-year-old man from Coventry, was also found to have entered the UK illegally and was arrested.”
