A dumper truck stolen from a building site in Market Harborough was recovered just an hour later after a slick cross-border police operation.

The vehicle was found by police jammed into the back of a van they stopped in Nottinghamshire.

The Ford Transit and its trailer were also stolen from Fairfield Road, Market Harborough, on Sunday night, police said.

The suspected thief was intercepted by officers on the A1 after a joint exercise involving Leicestershire, Lincolnshire and Nottinghamshire police forces.

A 40-year-old man from Doncaster, South Yorkshire, has now been charged with handling stolen goods and motoring offences following the incident.

He will appear in court next month.
