Drivers of 42 lorries and vans caught speeding on just one blackspot near Harborough - one doing 91mph

The drivers of 42 lorries and vans have been caught speeding on just one blackspot stretch of the A14.

One culprit was clocked at 91mph on the eastbound carriageway near Welford – smashing the legal limit for lorries and goods vehicles is 60mph.

The offenders were caught during the first of new safety camera checks.

Police said that 23 lorry drivers were not wearing seatbelts and 26 car drivers were caught by a mobile enforcement van.

The highest speed recorded by officers was 93mph.

All the motorists netted in the crackdown have been reported for driving offences.

The dangerous spot near junction one of the A14 is going to be patrolled regularly by Northamptonshire Police Safer Road Team because of the high number of fatal and serious injury crashes.
