Collection tin for Madi stolen from Market Harborough cafe

The charity tin was taken from Starbucks coffee house on the corner of St Mary’s Road and Adam and Eve Street.

It probably contained more than £100 given by Starbucks customers for Madi Brooks, a 10-year-old Market Harborough girl who suffers from a very rare neuro-muscular disorder.

Madi’s dad Oliver Brooks said: “The appeal team was absolutely disgusted by this.

“We’re shocked and stunned that anyone could take a charity tin, full stop. But this was a bright pink tin with a picture of a poorly child on the front.

“It was raising money for one of Madi’s wishes, so whoever took the tin has actually stolen a young, seriously ill girl’s wish.”

The full tin - which Mr Brooks estimates contained more than £100 - had been removed from the shop counter and was in an office.

It is believed that whoever took it must have sneaked into the office to remove the tin.

Local police hope to study CCTV to see if that provides any clues to the theft.

“The staff in Starbucks this week are very down” said Mr Brooks. “The duty manager was in tears.”

Mr Brooks had popped into Starbucks last Monday and was told the tin had been moved to the office area because it was full.

Staff initially thought it had been locked in the cafe’s safe - but later discovered it had disappeared.

Police in Market Harborough confirmed that a charity box had been stolen from Starbucks in the town.
