Beverly Brown, from VASL, said: “We’d like to say a massive thank you to Leicestershire County Council’s ‘Your Shire Grant’ for awarding our Leicestershire Carers Choir £2,500 to go towards the £7,012 a year we need to keep the choir going.

“The choir makes a huge difference to the lives of carers, giving them time for themselves to do something completely non-carer related.

“You don’t need to be able to read music or have any previous experience and it is free to join.

“We meet in Lutterworth every fortnight and we’d love any carers out there that fancy a go to come along and join us; just drop me an email to [email protected], or give me a ring on 01858 468543.”

Voluntary Action South Leicestershire’s story began in 1987 when the Volunteer Bureau was established as a charity. South Leicestershire Council for Voluntary Services was set up in 1993 and in April 2007, SLCVS and Market Harborough Volunteer Bureau merged to become Voluntary Action South Leicestershire, creating a single organisation to support and bring together volunteers and community groups.
