Cameron (15) seeks votes in Parliament youth vote

A teenager from Lutterworth is one of seven from the county who have thrown their hat into the ring to represent the county's young people.

Cameron Stewart (15) is standing in the UK Youth Parliament (UKYP) elections.

Cameron and the other candidates are vying for one of three UKYP places and will be working to secure votes from local young people until the election ends tomorrow (Friday, February 5).

The three candidates who secure the most votes will take their place on the UKYP for two years, while the remaining four will become deputy members of the Youth Parliament and will also represent youngsters on the County Youth Council (CYCLE).

Councillor Ivan Ould, Leicestershire County Council’s cabinet member for children and families, said: “This is a great opportunity for 11 to 18-year-olds to represent the views of young people across the county and campaign on behalf of their peers.”

Leicestershire County Council supports the youngsters who raise issues by speaking to councillors, students, council officers, MPs and ministers and taking part in a televised House of Commons debate.
