Bogus roofers steal cash and jewels

Police are hunting two bogus roofers who burgled the home of an elderly woman in the Harborough district.

The two men visited the victim, who lives in Claybrooke Magna, north-west of Lutterworth, earlier this month. they took cash and jewellery.

Police revealed details of the distraction burglary last Friday and asked the public to help them trace the men.

The duo visited the victim at around 11am on Tuesday, March 8, and claimed they were there to discuss carrying out some work to the roof.

The victim agreed to the work, but the men then requested money from her.

The victim went indoors to get some money, but one of the men followed her in and whilst she was distracted he stole money and jewellery.

The suspects were both white, about 25-years-old, with short dark brown hair. One of them was wearing white overalls.

From enquiries local police conducted last week, they believe the suspects may have been posing as workmen from a company called Colourseal. They may also have had a van.

A police spokesman said: “If you have been visited in similar circumstances or if you saw two men acting suspiciously in the area last week we need to speak to you.

“If you can recall anything that may help with our enquiry please get in touch.”

Anyone with any information is asked to contact DC 4433 Mel Fisher on 101, quoting crime number 47036.

Police reminded people not to agree to any work being carried out at their properties by anyone visiting door-to-door. “Always obtain at least three quotes from reputable companies” they said.
