But, according to Zoopla, there are 10 features in particular that people renting a property in the UK have on their wishlist.

What are renters searching for in a property?

Zoopla has analysed the most common search terms home-hunters used between July and September 2020 in order to identify the most sought-after features renters are looking for.

Gardens were found to be the most sought after features of a rental property, followed closely by parking.

Rural locations and balconies also made the list, as did en suites and properties where bills are included in the rental price.

Rental properties with a balcony were found to be most searched-for in areas where gardens can be hard to come by, more specifically in London.

Searches for pet-friendly rentals rank fifth overall, with renters all over the UK searching for properties where pets are allowed.

However, Zoopla found that only seven per cent of landlords are currently advertising homes that are suitable for pets.

These are the 10 most searched features for rental homes:

  1. Garden
  2. Parking
  3. Garage
  4. Balcony
  5. Pets
  6. Flooring
  7. Bills included
  8. En Suite
  9. Rural
  10. Studio

Commenting on the analysis, Tom Parker, Consumer Expert at Zoopla said: “Last year was a year of unprecedented change in all aspects of life, such as how we work, socialise and relax, all now take place in our homes.

“The priorities that renters once looked for pre-lockdown may have changed to match the times we’ve been living in, particularly with gardens having become the most desirable feature across the whole of the UK.”
