Market Harborough’s very own repair team is back up and running – and quickly building up steam amid the Covid-19 pandemic.

Set up last year, Market Harborough Fixers, a Community Interest Company, are hard at work making things work again.

The successful local eco group started a drop-off scheme two months ago.

Their enthusiastic fixers carried out over 20 repairs on local people’s goods ranging from coffee machines to laptops, radios and food mixers to large garden umbrellas.

“Now, thankfully, we are re-opening on the ground.

Slowly but surely on a much smaller scale.

“We will be holding weekly events throughout October and November at the EcoVillage on St Mary's Road in Market Harborough,” said Fixers chairman Steve Cousens.

“We'll have a different theme each week with two fixers only in a small controlled area, with PPE equipment and a full sanitisation set-up.

“So we can help two people only under these circumstances but it has been very much welcomed already and is fast growing in interest.”

Steve said they have already staged a jewellery repair theme, with five requests and three repairs undertaken.

“The previous week we ran a general purpose theme outdoors and as a trial run to smooth out the glitches,” said Steve.

Fixers hope to stage these specialist workshops over the next few weeks:

Saturday October 10 - sewing (to be confirmed)

Saturday October 17 - electrical repairs

Saturday October 24 - electrical/computers

Saturday October 31 - sewing

Saturday November 7 - jewellery repairs

Market Harborough Fixers are also hoping to recruit new repair volunteers to support their mini events.
