The hospice, which cares for more than 450 children and young people and their families, is inviting people to share their special memories and moments on a bauble for the tree.

People can make a donation in lieu of sending Christmas cards, share a Christmas memory or remember someone special in a Covid-safe way.

Alison Furlong, head of community and events at Rainbows, said: “There is no doubt that this Christmas is going to be very different for all of us, including the children and young people we care for.

“It will also be very different for our families who have lost someone special.”

She added: “Making a donation for a bauble on the Virtual Christmas Tree is a great way to support us as well as leaving a wonderful memory or a special message.

“It costs £6.5 million a year to run Rainbows and we rely almost entirely on donations.

“Fundraising has been hit very hard this year and this is a great and easy way you can support us.

“We appreciate all of your donations.”
