Lego launches 911 Turbo and Targa set to celebrate iconic sports car

Lego has taken the wraps off its latest detailed automotive set with a dual-build kit based on one of the most iconic cars of the 20th century.

The Lego Porsche 911 Turbo and Targa set is the latest tie-up between Lego and the German sports car brand and lets fans build either variant of the famous model from the 1970s and 80s.

Both models follow the famous sloping lines of the 911 shape and include period-correct touches such as the orange and nougat colour scheme on the seats and rear-mounted flat-six engine but include unique features to set them apart.

Builders can opt to recreate the wide-bodied Turbo model complete with Turbo badging, a wide rear axle, turbocharger and intercooler, and integrated rear spoiler.

Alternatively, the Targa features a removable roof panel that can be stored in the car, the instantly recognisable Targa Bar, along with Targa badging and a brick-built wraparound rear window.

Featuring almost 1,500 pieces, the £119.99 set measures more than 35cm long when completed. Members of Lego’s VIP loyalty program will be able to buy the set from 16 February before it goes on general sale on 1 March.

Mike Psiaki, design master at the Lego Group, commented: “Taking ownership of a brand-new sports car is an experience to savour and this is a feeling we wanted to recreate for Lgeo fans.

“As we were designing the car, the hardest decision to make was whether we would make the Turbo or Targa variant of the car. It was such a tough call that we engineered the ability to build the Lego Porsche 911 Turbo and Targa from a single set. Without doubt, fans of the 911 all over the world who have long admired these cars will love the opportunity to build both versions.”
