More than 100 people in Leicestershire have responded to a new recruitment drive in adult social care.

The county council is urging residents to boost their communities by supporting vulnerable people during the COVID-19 pandemic.

The council’s Inspired to Care team has also received nearly 50 applications for long-term and temporary positions in a variety of roles.

These include supporting people discharged from hospital back into the community, helping to free up beds for the NHS.

As well as recruiting for roles within the council, Inspired to Care will be helping home care providers recruit staff so they can continue providing vital services to the vulnerable and those in isolation.

Cllr Richard Blunt, Leicestershire County Council’s cabinet member for adult social care, said: “This is a challenging situation.

“We are doing everything we can to keep critical services going, particularly those supporting vulnerable people.”

He added: “Home care support has never been so important.

“The roles on offer will give Leicestershire residents the opportunity to make a difference in their local communities, support the most vulnerable to stay safe and well at home and earn money while carrying out a rewarding role.”

Both long-term and temporary positions are now available for anyone interested in supporting their communities.

The council is also keen to recruit people in the following positions to support those in need:

Previous home care professionals

People who are out of work or have reduced hours

Self-employed people

Retail/ hospitality/ leisure professionals

Students/ graduates

No experience is necessary.

The council will be carrying out free DBS security checks and providing basic training to ensure applicants can begin work to back residents as quickly as possible.
