The town’s closest Macmillan Cancer Support centre is based at Leicester Royal Infirmary Osbourne building, which can often be out of reach for people living in the Harborough district.

Home Instead said that somewhere more local has been increasingly needed as accessing information has proved difficult due to Covid-19 restrictions at an already stressful time.

Eunice Loney, chairman of the Market Harborough Group for Macmillan Cancer Support, said: “We are very thankful that Home Instead Market Harborough has provided space for our Macmillan Information Point which will provide valuable support to our local community. Donations to the charity have dropped significantly due to the nationwide lockdown, so small gestures of kindness in hard times really do mean a lot.”

Gail Devereux-Batchelor, managing director at Home Instead Market Harborough, said: “We are pleased to be able to offer this space to Macmillan so that they can more easily provide cancer-related advice and support to people within our local area.

"Through our home care services we work with many individuals who have had or are going through cancer, and know how important easy access to advice and support is.”
