Market Harborough has turned into a ghost town as the third tough coronavirus national lockdown takes dramatic effect the length and breadth of the UK.

The market town’s normally busy and vibrant town centre is almost deserted today (Wednesday) as people follow the Government’s new plea to stay at home and stay safe.

The high street, the beating heart of Market Harborough, is eerily quiet as local residents heed the call of Harborough council leader Cllr Phil King to go out only for essential food shopping, your daily exercise and urgent medical reasons.

“Don’t socialise or mix with other people.

“Don’t be tempted to invite your boyfriend or girlfriend over for a drink – or pop in and see your Aunty Joan,” urged Cllr King.

“Stay at home and reduce social contact – the fewer people you see the less chance of you or anyone else being struck down.”
